Shades mark — pick the cut
Shades is the mark. Below are the open decisions: three lens shapes, three mustache blocks, every combination, and four accent palette candidates. Everything is currentColor SVG, so switch themes to check light, dark, and high-contrast.
Lens shape
Hybrid
Current default. Wayfarer top bar with an aviator taper at the bottom.
Wayfarer
Squared lenses, straight sides, flat bottom. The boxiest read.
Aviator
True teardrop — rounder corners, lenses drop deeper toward the cheek.
Mustache
Box
Current default. Rounded horizontal block with a philtrum notch, square tips.
Chevron
Thick inverted V — wings angle down and out, tips landing below the lip.
Walrus
Extra wide with a heavy, wavy sag past the mouth corners. The bushiest.
Painter
Trapezoid cut — wide at the top, tapering to a flat brush bottom.
All combinations
Hybrid + Box is what ships today (header, favicon, app icon). Name a combination and it becomes the mark everywhere.
Accent palette
#c22d11#ec4b26#ff6a40Ember Red
Current — live in the app. The original ember pushed a couple shades toward red.
#c2410c#ea580c#ff7a1aOriginal Ember
Where we started — burnt orange, kept here for side-by-side comparison.
#c0181c#ef4444#ff5a5aFire Engine
All the way to true red. Loud, classic fire-service signal color.
#9e3420#d0654a#ff8a70Brick
Muted rust red — calmer, more municipal, easier on long reading sessions.
Tiles show each candidate on the light, dark, and high-contrast page backgrounds. Picking one swaps the accent tokens in globals.css; the soft backgrounds and text tints follow.
