Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 10, 2026
Short version: your conversations are stored in your own browser, not on our servers. Questions are sent to our server only to generate an answer, and we do not sell or share your information for advertising.
1. Information stored on your device
Fire Marshal Mike keeps your data local wherever possible. The following is stored only in your browser’s localStorage, on your device:
- Your conversation history with the assistant.
- A log of the questions you have asked and which code sections were cited (this powers the on-device Insights page).
- Your theme preference (light, dark, or high contrast).
We cannot see this data. You can delete it at any time using the delete controls in the app (conversation delete buttons and the “Clear question log” button on Insights) or by clearing your browser’s site data. It does not follow you across devices or browsers.
2. Information that reaches our servers
- Your questions and conversation context are sent to our server each time you ask a question, solely to generate an answer. We do not store them server-side.
- IP addresses are used transiently for rate limiting (abuse prevention) and appear in standard hosting logs maintained by our hosting provider, Vercel.
3. AI processing
When AI answering is enabled, your question and recent conversation context are forwarded to a third-party AI provider (Anthropic) to generate the answer, subject to Anthropic’s data handling terms. Do not include personal, confidential, or sensitive information in your questions — the Service only needs the fire-code question itself.
4. Cookies and tracking
The Service does not use advertising trackers or third-party analytics cookies. localStorage is used only for the app features described above.
5. Future changes we will disclose
If we later add accounts, cross-device sync, or aggregated question analytics (to learn which code topics people ask about most), this policy will be updated first, and any aggregated analytics will be designed to avoid identifying individuals.
6. Children
The Service is intended for professional and general audiences and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
